High Streamflow Advisory issued for Skeena River through Terrace

Residents along the Skeena River have been advised to be cautious as the B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory covering the Skeena River and its mainstem below Kitwanga to the area of Usk and Terrace.

This alert comes following reports of water levels in the river being high, or expected to rise rapidly in the near future, without any widespread flooding being anticipated.

According to the River Forecast Centre, rushing water can pose a significant safety risk, even when major flooding is not expected. Minor flooding may still be possible in low-lying regions near the river as water levels continue to rise.

Officials are asking people to stay away from rivers and river banks, which can become unsafe when water levels are high. Drivers are also reminded not to drive through flooded roads.

The advisory remains in effect as crews continue to monitor river conditions across the region.
