Cowboys and cowgirls to take over Kispiox this weekend

Kispiox rodeo action kicks off on Friday for its 79th year.

“One of the oldest rodeos in B.C., or Canada, and it’s kind of exciting the events that are coming up, people that will be coming, cowboys that are entering,” said Secretary Joy Allen.

She added it will feature two live band dances, beef BBQ, various vendors, auction, and a pancake breakfast Saturday and Sunday.

Also happening are local and BC Rodeo Association events.

“There’s even foot races during the rodeo which is actually one of the most popular events,” said Allen.

She added prizing for the rodeo is plentiful with it having the most trophies and buckles to be awarded of any rodeo in B.C.

“Most rodeos that happen in B.C. will have maybe 11 events at the most, and we’ve got almost 30,” Allen said.

On top of people from northwest B.C. attending the rodeo, she said there have been several who plan their vacation to western Canada around the event.

“It’s really old fashioned and we’ve maintained that over the years.”

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or on the rodeo’s website.
