Terrace to host Minerals North 2027

One of the largest mining and exploration conferences in northern B.C. is coming to Terrace in 2027

The announcement was made at Monday’s Terrace city council meeting following this year’s Minerals North conference in Smithers.

Councillor Brian Downie said that the conference showcases the magnitude of the mining and mineral exploration industry in northern B.C., especially northwest B.C. and the Golden Triangle region.

Downie said about $750 million was spent on mineral exploration in B.C. last year, with roughly $450 million spent in Northern B.C.

He added that a large share of the province’s exploration spending is taking place in northwest B.C.

“There’s a lot of excitement about where mining is now and the future,” Downie said.

The Minerals North conference usually attracts mining companies, exploration companies, vendors, government officials, and industry experts from all over the region.

According to Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas, organizing Minerals North is an indication that Terrace is increasingly becoming an important player in the resource industry, especially due to the mining operations taking place in northwest B.C.

“I think that’s wonderful news because Terrace is a mining town. So I’m really excited to hear that we’re getting Minerals North.”

The event’s return to Terrace carries additional significance because the city hosted the first northern mining conference in 1989. Terrace also hosted the event in 2013.

The 2027 event is expected to help showcase Terrace to industry leaders and bring in more investment into the area.
