Terrace community gathers to honour veterans on Remembrance Day

The City of Terrace and its community all gathered around the Terrace cenotaph this past Tuesday, Nov. 11, to remember the armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

Hundreds gathered for the event, in which local veterans, first responders, cadets, and residents came together to pay their respects. The service included laying wreaths, observing a moment of silence, and playing “The Last Post.”

Debbie Sinnott, president of the Terrace Legion, said she was heartened by the strong community presence at this year’s service.

“I was very impressed with the turnout this year for the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph,” said Sinnott. “It was a pleasure to see so many in support of our poppy campaign and the service.”

Sinnott added that the meaning behind Remembrance Day continues to resonate deeply with Canadians.

“What I hope Remembrance Day means to everyone is that the sacrifice for our Veterans and their families is never forgotten, and we remember to be proud Canadians,” she said. “As Legion members, our first and foremost duty is the duty to all our Veterans.”

The Terrace gathering was one of numerous ceremonies held across Canada in honor and memory of those who served.
