Terrace breaks 93-year-old temperature record

If it felt unusually warm to you on Jan. 13th, you weren’t wrong.

Terrace has officially recorded its warmest Jan. 13 on record, breaking a daily high that stood for more than 90 years.

According to Environment Canada, the highest temperature recorded in the Terrace area on January 13 was 9.6 C, breaking the former record of 6.7 C set in 1933.

The heat broke records due to a strong warm weather pattern that moved into the area following a recent atmospheric river event. The atmospheric river brought milder temperatures into northwestern B.C., causing temperatures to rise significantly above normal.

Environment Canada has kept weather records for the Terrace area since 1912.
