The City of Terrace and Kitselas First Nation have secured a significant legal victory in the B.C. Supreme Court relating to ongoing issues at the Skeena Industrial Development Park.
The court has ordered Taisheng International Investment Services to return a $6.18 million construction deposit to the City after the company failed to meet its development obligations for the industrial park. Terrace and Kitselas operate the site together in a joint venture.
The construction deposit will be kept by the joint venture and used to support the development of the park’s groundwater system.
The city said the ruling is an important step forward for the project. It also notes that Taisheng has a 30-day window to appeal the decision. Terrace officials said they will respect the judicial process while the appeal period remains open.
The city will provide a further update once the appeal deadline has passed.
