A long-vacant Coachman Apartments is now one step closer to reopening its doors. On Monday evening, city council approved a development permit for the new owners of the Coachman Apartments, clearing the way for extensive renovations to the 48-unit building.
The owners plan to renovate the three-story building’s exterior, including new patio doors and windows, new paint and cladding, landscaping upgrades, enhanced parking spaces, and new garbage enclosures. A new pedestrian entrance is also part of the approved design.
“These 48-market units are really needed in our community, and I look forward to them being brought back into the market,” said Terrace mayor Sean Bujtas.
The development permit also includes conditions regarding a stormwater management plan to allow for water retention on the property and financial security to guarantee that the project is completed.
Council members expressed strong support, saying that they were glad to see investment in a building that has sat vacant and has been deteriorating over time.
The property owners can now proceed with the approved renovations. A timeline for when the building might reopen has not yet been announced.
