District of Kitimat shares Halloween safety tips for families

With Halloween just around the corner, the District of Kitimat is reminding parents and children to be mindful of safety this Friday evening as kids and their families hit the streets for their Halloween festivities.

Trick-or-treaters will be filling up neighborhoods all around the community, and the District is reminding families to plan ahead and follow a few basic safety tips.

Children should be accompanied by an adult and wear clothing that is visible in the dark. Glow sticks and/or reflective tape on costumes can make them much more visible to drivers.

Parents should also take a quick scan of their kids’ trick-or-treat haul before anyone starts to dig in. The District also advises staying on one side of the street and crossing only in designated areas, rather than zigzagging from door to door.

A good tip for trick-or-treaters is that if a porch light is on, it means more than likely that the house is open for trick-or-treating.

The District of Kitimat thanks everyone for helping keep the spooky night safe and enjoyable for all.
