The Thomas Street Reconstruction project in Terrace is now complete.
The upgrade includes new sidewalks on both sides of the street, with a multi-use path on the eastern side for walking, cycling, skateboarding, or rollerblading.
The project was funded by the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant program. The City of Terrace stated that these upgrades will make it more convenient and safer for people to move around without the need for a vehicle.
The City appreciated Infracon, AllNorth, and the residents’ patience throughout construction.
Earlier this year, the City stated work was needed due to the poor road surface and aging water main between Cooper Drive and Halliwell Avenue. The work involved replacing the water main, repairing storm and sewer pipes, and upgrading landscaping.
Funding also included the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance Agreement with the Province, which provides funding for road and utility upgrades. The City was also funded $413,880 from the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit to help pay for the new sidewalk.
The project is now finished, and Thomas Street is safer, smoother, and open to everyone.
