Terrace sets new record for coldest October 14 in history

Did you think it was cold on Tuesday? You weren’t wrong.

According to Environment Canada, Terrace bottomed out at –2.8°C on Oct. 14, setting a new all-time record for the coldest temperature ever recorded on that date. The previous low was –2.2°C, set back in 1930, with weather records in the Terrace area dating back to 1912

Many residents woke up to their windshields covered with frost, with several having to scrape ice off their cars before heading out Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada’s forecast calls for slightly milder conditions in the coming days. Daytime highs are expected to reach around 10°C by Thursday, Oct. 16, with periods of rain throughout the day and an overnight low near 5°C. However, a gradual cooling trend is expected to return later in the week, meaning residents should keep their gloves and scrapers close, as the frosty mornings may not be over yet.
