The 2025 camping season has officially come to a close in Kitimat, with both Radley Park and Hirsch Creek Park now closed until next year.
Deputy Leisure Services Director Shaun O’Neill said the municipal campgrounds welcomed just over 3,000 visitors this summer, adding up to about 1,400 individual reservations.
The season brought a mix of local and out-of-town guests. O’Neill estimates about 60 percent of campers came from outside the area, while the other 40 percent were from Kitimat, Terrace, and the surrounding valleys. Some visitors traveled from as far as Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, while others came from overseas.
Despite wetter weather than usual, O’Neill described the season as “very successful.” He added that the online reservation system introduced a few years ago has helped boost numbers by giving campers confidence that their site will be secured ahead of arrival.
Reservations for next year’s season will open on Apr. 1, 2026.
