Terrace to host Take Back the Night march and vigil this October

Terrace will be joining communities across the world this fall in the Take Back the Night initiative, standing together to bring awareness to sexual violence and support survivors.

The Ksan Society and Violence Against Women in Relationships Committee will be hosting a march and candlelight vigil on Thursday, Oct 9. The event is open to people of all ages and genders to participate and show solidarity with victims of gender-based violence.

The event begins at 4:00 p.m. at Chill Soda Shop, where participants will gather for a silent walk across the neighborhood. The walk will conclude at George Little Park, where a candlelight vigil and community gathering will take place prior to closing at 6:00 p.m.

Take Back the Night is a long-running international movement that brings attention to the reality many women and gender-diverse individuals face. The campaign hopes to reclaim those spaces while fighting for safety, respect, and healing.

Organizers said beyond raising awareness, they aim to create a space of collective healing and advocacy through the Terrace event.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to come out, march together, and demand an end to sexual violence.

For more information on this event, visit local community bulletins or contact the Ksan Society in Terrace.
