Sean Bujtas and new Terrace council sworn in for new term

Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas and the city’s newly elected council have officially been sworn into office, marking the start of the 2026-2030 municipal term.

The inaugural meeting was held on Nov. 2, with Bujtas returning for another term as mayor.

Joining him on council are returning councillors Chris App and James Cordeiro, as well as new councillors Joe Lavoie, Jesse Olynik, Keenan Stella and Nikki Villeneuve.

The ceremony also included welcoming speeches from representatives from the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nations, who congratulated the new council and emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the city.

After the swearing-in ceremony, the council went on to conduct its first order of business by appointing a deputy mayor for the remainder of 2026.

Councillor James Cordeiro was appointed as the deputy mayor for November and December 2026.

A schedule of deputy mayor appointments for 2027 is expected to come before council for consideration in December.
