Terrace Fire Department raises concerns over increase in suspicious fires

The Terrace Fire Department is warning residents after seeing an increase in suspicious and deliberately set fires in the community over the past several months.

Although every case is unique and is under investigation, Terrace’s Fire Chief, Joel Brousson, is worried about the trend and the need for community awareness.

“Any intentionally set fire has the potential to spread rapidly and threaten neighbouring properties, residents, and firefighters,” Brousson said. “These incidents are taken very seriously, and we remain committed to working with our policing partners to identify those responsible.”

The department says deliberately set fires put lives, homes, businesses, and emergency responders at significant risk.

Fire officials are also reminding residents that reporting a fire as soon as possible can help reduce damage. Anyone who notices smoke, flames, or suspicious activity is urged to call 911 immediately.

“Several recent incidents have demonstrated just how valuable the public is in protecting our community,” Brousson said. “A timely 911 call can make the difference between minor damage and the loss of a home or business.”

The Terrace Fire Department remains in close cooperation with the Terrace RCMP to investigate suspicious fires. Investigators are working to determine the origin, cause, and intent behind each incident and hold those responsible accountable.

Anyone who sees any suspicious activity or has information related to suspicious fires is encouraged to contact the Terrace RCMP.

“Working together, we can help protect our community and reduce the risk these dangerous incidents pose to our residents and first responders,” Brousson said.
