Arctic outflow warning issued for Terrace and Kitimat

A yellow Arctic Outflow warning has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada for the inland regions of the North Coast, including Terrace and Kitimat.

Strong outflow winds accompanied by wind chill values of near or below minus 20 degrees are expected from tonight through Thursday morning.

According to Environment Canada, an Arctic high-pressure ridge developing over northern B.C. will lead to temperatures plummeting into the negative double digits overnight. When combined with strong outflow winds moving towards the coast, conditions will feel significantly colder.

Environment Canada warns that any outdoor activity will increase the risk of frostbite. Residents are asked to minimize exposed skin by wearing hats, scarves, mittens or gloves, and to layer clothing to protect themselves from the cold temperatures and strong winds.

Residents are also encouraged to continue checking alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada for the latest information as conditions change.
