North Coast RCMP officers and Body Cams

The RCMP is rolling out between 10 and 15-thousand body-worn cameras and a Digital Evidence Management System across Canada over the next 12 to 18 months.

These cameras aim to enhance transparency, accountability, and public trust, helping to resolve public complaints quickly and improve interactions between police and the public.

Officers will activate their cameras before responding to calls and when feasible, inform individuals when recording is active.

Body-worn cameras will not be used for constant surveillance, during strip searches, or in areas with a high expectation of privacy, like washrooms, hospitals, and religious spaces.

Policy and training will guide officers in the proper use of these devices.
